I never fall sick!

Yes! I never fall sick! No need for anti-jinx, because I have jinxed myself enough already. Earlier this year, it was this. Now when I thought I will be writing about my Pismo Beach trip during thanksgiving, I am down with high fever/headache/sore throat since Sunday. Could be flu, could be swine flue, could be anything. The doc thinks that, since I am young(Even though my sister thinks otherwise) and with no other complication, I don’t need any flu med and don’t need any tests either. So I am on cough med(codeine), nasal spray both of which are keeping me in a drowsy and doped-up state. All I can wish right now is that an anvil to crush my head so that I can get this over with once and for all!

  1. achacho…get well soon

For headache: google “headache ayurwhat” third link on the results is some site called wellness.com…it tells you to pour warm oil in your ears…I think that will help…for some reason I am not able to copy the link on my phone

Thanks! Oil in Ear! Don’t think it will work for me although I am trying everything (edhai thinna pithatham theliyum types). The site is wellsphere. I am hoping I will get better in day or two!

  2. Take it easy…easier said eh! May be you should continue with gooseberries there as well! Btw, I heard from a reliable source that gooseberries have be eaten raw within 2-3 days of purchase (ideally after plucking from tree!) as it has easily soluble vitC. Anyway, let me stop my rambling about GBs before you through that anvil on my head….take care…get well soon (who doesn’t want to?!)
Yes I would throw that anvil! πŸ™‚ As far as I have heard, gooseberries retain their properties in any form irrespective of dried, powdered, raw, cooked. But then who cares. Here I don’t get gooseberries.

    • Are you talking about fresh ones? I heard from kodi’s mom that fresh ones are available in whole foods…but I checked out several stores in my area & I did not find them here….

Frozen ones are bad but canned siru nellikkais are good…I make nellikaai thayir pachidi with them…& it comes out really good.

  3. Oh no.. get well soon.
I usually find manjal podi+pepper+sugar+warm milk before bed helps the sore throat. And its better if it is panankalkandu instead of sugar. Let me know if you need some panankalkandu.. I have some at home.

Thanks Reva! Am doing that also with panangkalkandu. Feeling a tad better today after adding an eucalyptus oil steam.

  4. Uh oh.Take care. Chicken soup works for me. But you are a veggie right? So milagu rasam maybe? A lot of warm fluids should do the trick I think.

Codeine is great for coughs. It also has a high risk of addiction. So easy on it πŸ˜€ I’m one of those Pharmacists who dispense medicines but doesn’t take any unless I’m almost close to dying. So its Paati vaithyam all the way for me πŸ™‚

Revs, thanks! Milagu rasam is what is keeping me alive. I have stopped codeine after the second day since it is messing me up. I was not able to sleep well with codeine. I stay away from Docs and Pharmacy unless I am dying. Since my fever was 102, I was forced by the husband to go to the doc. At the end, paatti vaidhiyam is what is helping!
