Superstars of Dance

Looks like the media is really running out of ideas. If not why would they have a competition like this? What next? What is the best fruit in the world? They would have judges judging the fruits, apple vs pineapple, orange vs Mango! How can one compare the  salsa dancing to bollywood dance to tap dancing to ballet to African tribal dance to Kathak to Barathnatyam to and the list goes on.  I tell you it is rather an insult to all the dance forms of the world!! The judges are judging by their own personal preference than skills. And one cannot blame them since you cannot expect the judges to know all the international dance forms. It is just a sad program I tell you!

If you are wondering, why I am watching this…  Because India is participating. And I was curious.  And I am so disappointed. There are 1000s if not millions of great dancers in India and they picked some bay area desi kids to represent us (other than the professional Baratnatyam dancer) against world class dancers.  And to add insult to injury, the Indian judge, Shirish Dayal ,  doesn’t do anything to promote the Indian teams. Shouldn’t he be passionate like the other judges and educate the other judges about our dance forms! God.. When will we ever learn!

  4. Hi Aparna
    None Taken.
If your comment is about Sirish not commenting on the Indian dance, I still believe that he could have done a nice introduction of the Indian dance forms just like the Argentina or South African or Ireland Judge did. When he can comment on how hot the other forms of dances are, I am sure he can comment on the beauty of the Indian dance forms.

  5. i agree…
the dances from different parts of the world r incomparable..
the judges cannot have knowledge about all the dance forms..
i watch the show cos of the variety of dance it shows…cos in that sense..its really great since it brings out different dance forms from all over the world..
as for the competition part of it..i guess its just to bring in more viewers
there couldnt possibly be a fair “competition”..
dance is different for all of them…for some its concentrating on mainly lifts n falls n for some its shown with eyes, hand gestures n expressions..some consider involving martial arts as a form of dance..
how can this be compared on a single ground?
