Saw Ayan this weekend. Caught it in a low quality DVD. Wish had seen the fight sequences in big screen, since that was the only nice thing about this movie. Thamanna, She can’t act, she is not pretty. Lesser said about her the better! Surya looks good. But he should either use his brain or listen to some one who has brain and pick good movies with good storyline.
The first fight sequence reminds us of Casino Royale and one of the Bourne movies. The first half is loosely based on Blood Diamond. The second half is very much based on Maria full of grace. The ending is like Catch me if you can. Can anyone do any more cut/paste?
Edited to Add: Oh! I completely forgot about the villain. Man, some villains are scary and some villains are smart and some are just handsome. This one beats all. He is dumb. Felt like taking him aside, give a tight slap on his face and give him a good hair cut!

Saw the movie “Taken” starring Liam Neeson yesterday. It was an action packed Masala OK Movie. The best thing about the movie was that it was just 94 minutes.
If I have to review it in 1 line, I would say it is a not so good Hollywood version of the classic Tamil movie, Mahanadhi (மஹாநதி).

Saw Angels and Demons yesterday. I liked it. It was better than Da Vinci Code in my opinion. I read the book a couple of years back and have completely forgotten. So I enjoyed the movie. On the other hand, my husband and sister in law who rememberd the book were very disappointed with the movie. The movie has eliminated many important plots and scenes from the book. Maybe due to the pressure from religious groups. In spite of that it is a good watch.
It was great watching Rome in big screen. The only part I wasn’t impressed was the making of the anti-matter. They could have just said they have invented of anti-matter and it is stolen instead of the elaborate making of anti-matter.
Bottom line: It is a good movie for people who haven’t read the book.

My cousin’s husband works for Pixar. Thanks to him, we got to go for a free preview of UP. We saw the movie yesterday. The movie is great! It has a good mix of sentiments and fun. The little boy Russell is funny to watch. The bird Kevin is so colourful and cute. Ellie is also very cute even though she has only less screen presence. I especially liked Frederikson smelling of prune juice. Ha Ha Ha!!

Me with my crutches at Pixar
The short movie before UP, Stork story Partly Cloudy was beyond cute. Loved it. Don’t know how people can be this creative and funny.
It was fun watching the movie in the midst of the creators. It was great watching the family/friends of creators clap when their names appeared on the credits.
The Pixar office is so nice with the 20 feet table lamp and the ball outside the lobby.

Pixar
The lobby outside the preview theatre is full of life size characters from Pixar movies. Sully, Mike Wazowski, cars, etc. Since I have a broken ankle, couldn’t go up and see the other characters. May be next time. Time to start inviting the Pixar cousins home for dinner regularly.

Movie: Arundhathee
Cast: Anushka, Sonu Sood, Shayaji Shinde, Manorama
Director: Kodi Ramakrishna
Verdict: Good Horror Movie
Plus: Anushka, Graphics, Spooky without getting cheesy
Anushka has acted very well. The movie as a whole is a good horror flick. A little high on the gore meter though. Not a family entertainer. It is definitely R-rated in my opinion. Some of the scenes reminded me of The Mummy. The palace set is really grand and nice. I hear that it cost Rs. 85 lacs to build the set! The dance sequence with the drums is nice. I guess it will be even better on the theatres. The dubbing artists have done a good job. Wish I knew who was who. The lip-sync is a little off. But pardonable given that the Tamil version is dubbed from Telugu.
I would say it is a good watch for anyone who loves the Indian horror flicks.
(P.S. Please leave logic at home when watching the movie.)

Watched Yaavarum Nalam today! Well-made movie! It is refreshing to see movies like these in the middle of “Boy Meets Girl” or “Dhadha/Hitman” type movies! Yaavarum Nalam belongs to the ghost thriller category. The cast is exceptional! Everyone has acted their part very well. The songs were so so. Didn’t impress me much. Background score was good, kept us in the edge of the seat. Neetu Chandra is good. Loved Chinmayi’s dubbing for Neetu Chandra. Wonderful job by Chinmayi. Saranya is her usual best! Madhavan and Ravi Babu have acted well! The TV serial crew are so perfect! The last scene was cute which paves the way for a sequel. The only problem I saw was the camera. I hated the shaky camera whenever there was a spooky scene. During the scenes which demands your concentration, the camera shake is very distracting. Another minor annoyance is that the entire family other than Madhavan never supsects a thing. One keeps wondering why they are so blind! The director Vikram K Kumar is very promising!
Overall the movie is a must watch (especially in the theatres)!
P.S I figured out who the villain is 5 minutes after the interval before my other half, cousin and his friend!! Man! I should have become a detective!

He is one of the few who brought so much laughter in my life! What a great comedian/actor! After Manorama and him, so far no one has done justice to comedy! Thank you Nagesh and we will miss you!

Have been planning to watch this movie for a month now. But somehow or the other kept postponing. Finally caught Slumdog Millionaire in the theatre yesterday! Glad I watched it in the theatre. Even after a month of the release, the theatre was half full. Impressive. The movie is very good and the music dramatic. Madhur Mittal as Salim is wonderful. The kids too have done a terrific job! Sad that Oscar doesn’t have a category for child artists! The casting is very impressive. Overall very well-made movie.
Edited to Add: ARR wins the golden globe award!! Cool!!

· Filed under movie ·Tagged Gautham Menon, Surya, Vaaranam Ayiram
Went to see Vaaranam Ayiram with low expectation after reading bbthots and boo’s reviews. That helped. Surya is awesome! His acting is wonderful! You don’t even think for a minute that the dad(rather daddy) role and the son role are played by the same person. The songs are great! Simran has done a good job.
But as a director, I have to say Gautham Menon has failed! The story didn’t convey the father/son bond that he wanted to convey very well. I didn’t mind the english dialogues in Vettaiyadu Vilayadu. But in this movie, it seemed so out of place! They weren’t natural. The expectations from Gautham Menon is great! He didn’t meet it in this movie! After seeing this movie, one thing for sure, no one would have the urge to call their dad, daddy!
Inspite of the pitfalls, it is a decent movie overall! Must see if you are a Surya fan! As for Gautham Menon, hope Chennaiyil Mazhaikaalam satisfies our expectations!
